Surgical Technique

Women considering breast augmentation will be delighted to know that the surgery and its recovery can be easier than they ever imagined. Dr. Michael Ciaravino uses his unique surgical technique with specially designed instruments to perform surgery in a precise, gentle manner. The incisions are very small and well-hidden. There is little to no bruising. The recovery is very fast, the risks are minimized, and the results are beautiful and natural-looking. These are just a few of the benefits that come from having surgery performed by one of the world’s leading breast surgeons.

Patients are placed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. A small incision is made either in the natural breast crease or at the areola. For saline breast implants, Dr. Ciaravino uses an incision that is less than one-inch in length and very inconspicuous. His incision is half the size of that used by most surgeons. Silicone implants require a longer incision.

He then creates a space or “pocket” into which the breast implant is inserted. The implant is placed either directly behind the breast tissue (sub-glandular) or behind the pectoral muscle (sub-pectoral). Once the implant is placed, it is then inflated with sterile saline to an optimal volume. Silicone implants come pre-filled and do not require inflation. After carefully assessing the breast for size, shape and symmetry the incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures. A small gauze dressing and surgical bra is applied. The surgery takes less than one hour.

Dr. Ciaravino performs hundreds of breast augmentation procedures every year with spectacular results and extremely happy patients.
