Common Botox® Questions

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is created by using a sterile form of Botulinum Toxin A. This is the same toxin that causes botulism. When BOTOX® is injected, it paralyzes the muscle beneath the wrinkle. It is one of the most common ways millions of people have chosen to rejuvenate an aging or tired looking face.

Which places are the most effective for BOTOX® injections?

Dr. Ciaravino has successfully treated patients with BOTOX® injections for:

  • Lip lines
  • Smile lines and “crow’s feet” around the eyes
  • Frown lines between the eyes
  • Vertical lines on the neck
  • Forehead creases
  • Raising outer eyebrows

How effective is BOTOX® and how long will it last?

Studies have shown that over 80% of BOTOX® patients will see results within a week of their BOTOX® treatment. As the muscles beneath the injection site paralyze and weaken in the days after your BOTOX® treatment, the lines begin to fade. BOTOX® typically lasts three to six months before you will need to be retreated.

How long will the actual BOTOX® procedure last?

The average BOTOX® treatment lasts ten minutes, but this obviously depends on how many injections you receive. Because there is no downtime, you can resume your normal activities almost immediately after the treatment. However, you should avoid exercising for a few hours after getting BOTOX®.

Is BOTOX® safe?

Although many people are concerned about BOTOX® coming from the creation of a toxin, BOTOX® injections are one of the safest cosmetic procedures performed today. You will not get sick from the sterile toxin. Millions of people get BOTOX® injections every year and very few have side effects. One of the most common side effects is minor redness at the injection site.
