Questions about Juvederm®

voluma houston

What is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm is a dermal filler used for a number of cosmetic purposes including lip augmentation and smoothing wrinkle lines near the mouth. Juvéderm increases the volume of water within the skin by bonding with it to push out wrinkles and provide you with a more youthful appearance.

What is Juvéderm made of?
Juvéderm is composed primarily of hyaluronic acid, a compound found naturally in your skin. Hyaluronic acid is found in all mammals and helps to hydrate and add volume to skin. With Juvéderm dermal filler, nothing is being added to your skin that you do not already have. Instead, hyaluronic acid is replenished to give you the youthful appearance you desire.

Is the treatment painful?
There may be some minor discomfort during and after the lip augmentation injections. However, the smooth nature of Juvéderm allows cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Ciaravino, to inject it easily and relatively painlessly for the patient. A mild anesthetic at the injection site may also be used during the procedure.

What are the risks associated with Juvéderm?
Because Juvéderm is composed primarily of substances that occur naturally in your skin, there are very few side effects. The most common side effects are swelling, discomfort at the injection site, redness, itching, small bumps, bruising and discoloration. These side effects only occur rarely and are normally gone in only a few days after the procedure.

Is Juvéderm a permanent treatment?
The effects of Juvéderm may last up to one year without additional treatment. Juvéderm is the longest lasting FDA-approved hyaluronic acid treatment available, and is the most highly recommended dermal filler on the market.
